Hotel Review: Barcelo Corralejo Bay, Fuerteventura
The Barcelo Corralejo Bay is a 4 start hotel situated, as the name suggests, in Corralejo a tourist resort in Fuerteventura, The Canary Islands.
Although not directly on the beach like other hotels, the hotel has a lot to offer.
Firstly, it is adults only, perfect for couples that are in need of some quiet time around the pool and to enjoy peaceful meals. The hotel has an impressive entrance and very welcoming receptionists. Everything was explained clearly and we were guided to our room and shown the hotels facilities along the way.
There are various rooms and suites available. We stayed in a twin room that was well appointed, included a mini bar and TV with channels in several languages.
Our room rate included use of the hotel's spa, it is a good sized spa but there was a little problem. Many of the guests were not following the thermal circuit and keeping to the allotted time, this made it impossible to use the jacuzzi at the end as it was full of the same people as when we started the circuit. Maybe they didn't understand and thought it was fine to use the jacuzzi continually, but this ruined the experience for other guests.
The spa itself though is beautiful, and includes:
· Relaxation pool (with water jets, hydro-massage seats, hot tubs, water cascades and swan neck showers)
· Shower Labyrinth (with Turkish bath, labyrinth shower, aroma, music and colour)
· Caldarium and colour therapy
· Toning pool
· Turkish bath
· Smooth pebble walkway
· Finnish sauna
· Indoor and outdoor relaxation areas
The caldarium and colour therapy room was especially relaxing. In fact, because we could not get into the jacuzzi even after waiting a while and having a drink, we decided to use the caldarium again. Well reccomended.
The breakfasts were wonderful and with excellent service. The woman making fresh omelettes, pancakes and waffles every morning was lovely, always with a big smile and a "good morning".
The quality of the breakfast was excellent and the range was incredible, something for everyone. Different types of coffees and teas, freshly squeezed juices, cava, a wide range of continental style breakfast, cured meats, cheeses, jams, breads, cereal, fruit, cooked breakfast area (bacon, eggs, beans, sausages etc). You can choose to eat in the restaurant or in the lovely terrace.
We did not use the hotel for other meals as we were also visiting other hotels and restaurants but if the breakfast is anything to go by, I'm sure that lunch and dinner are also excellent.
The pool was a great size and very relaxing with plenty of sun-beds and thankfully, bed hogging is banned. The hotel also provides you with pool towels that you can change as required.
Corralejo itself is a lovely place for a quiet holiday, the beaches are wonderful and not crowded and if you love water-sports, then there's a lot for you to do. The main street in Corralejo is very touristy, typical English food pubs, steak houses and Chinese restaurants but if you head away towards the port, you can find a lot of lovely bars and restaurants serving fresh fish, Canarian food etc. We also found a lovely Indian restaurant tucked away at the back of a commercial centre, see here for that review.
We definitely recommend this hotel, it's the perfect getaway to recharge your batteries. Make sure you book for breakfast too, it's well worth it.
Finally we'd like to thank the lovely staff at the Barcelo Corralejo Bay for making our stay enjoyable, especially the helpful bell boy, friendly receptionists and waiters, the excellent room attendants and of course, the lovely woman making our pancakes in the morning. We look forward to visiting you again.
